Given the rapid pace of urbanization in India, the Urban Infrastructure sector requires an enhanced focus. Municipal Corporations / Urban Local Bodies require improvements in internal systems so as to cope with project development, contractor appointment, project implementation and creation of sustainable O&M frameworks. The pooled Municipal Debt Obligation “PMDO Facility was launched on October 13, 2006 through a partnership of 15 Banks/FIs including IL&FS with a corpus of Rs 2750 cr to primarily finance urban local bodies and Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) promoted under PPP arrangements, to implement urban infrastructure projects for Water Supply and Sewerage, Solid Waste Management, Roads and Urban Transport, Environmental Projects, Healthcare and Education etc.

The Facility is managed by IL&FS Urban Infrastructure Managers Limited (IUIML). As Facility Manager the company monitors the project during construction and operations period and also oversees covenant compliance along-with the Security Trustee. There is a significant opportunity for financing such urban infrastructure projects
