IL&FS has been extensively engaged in the development of the power sector in India for over a decade. Over the years, the Group has played a proactive and multi-faceted role in the Indian Power Sector. The Company has been actively assisting Government of India in formulating policies for facilitating private sector participation in the development of the power sector including renewable energy initiatives.

IL&FS has partnered with several state utilities for developing generation, transmission and distribution projects on a PPP basis. The company is currently involved in the development of over 7100 MW of Thermal and Hydro Projects across the country.

IL&FS Energy Development Company Limited (IEDCL), a subsidiary of IL&FS, owns and operates windfarms with an operational capacity of 549.6 MW as at 31st March 2014, and is in the process of further enhancing capacity. The Wind farms are spread across the states of Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh in India

IL&FS commenced investments in wind farms in the mid-1990s. Current operating capacity makes IL&FS Group one of the largest Wind IPPs in India. The Group has an experienced team focussed on developing new wind farm projects and operating existing ones
