National Games Village, Hyderabad

The project involved structuring, project development and process management of the National Games Village Project, Hyderabad. The Games Village covering 1.3 million sft of living space (1,000 dwellings) with additional common facilities for 10,000 athletes and officials for National Games 2002, has been successfully developed on a commercial format on Government land. It saved the Government of Andhra Pradesh an exposure to substantial amounts of debt from agencies such as HUDCO, which are traditional sources of financing National Games Village

The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) approached the Project Development and Promotion Partnership (PDPP) of APIIC and IL&FS in February 2000 to assist it in the preparation of a loan proposal to HUDCO for the Games Village. The PDPP was able to provide an alternative route of development to the SAAP

IL&FS, along with Housing Development Finance Corporationg Limited (HDFC), assisted APIIC for structuring the project in such a way that the Village was provided to the SAAP for the period of the Games at no cost except for operations cost

The Games Village was successfully bid out and the private sector developer, M/s IVRCL Infrastructure Limited, provided the facilities
