Water and Waste Water

Ambur Vaniyambadi Effluent Program

The leather industries in Ambur & Vaniyambadi (North Tamil Nadu) experience severe water shortage for process use. To meet the water requirement and to comply with the environmental norms, the member tanneries formed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Ambur Economic Development Organization Limited (AEDOL) to implement a water recovery project from the tannery effluent

The project, a pioneering effort in tannery effluent treatment, involves implementation of zero liquid discharge facilities covering over 200 tannery units in Ambur

IL&FS has developed and is implementing the tannery effluent treatment project with an aggregate effluent treatment capacity of 7.2 MLD. The project constitutes three common effluent treatment plants

Assistance has been provided to AEDOL in implementing a zero discharge solution for treatment of tannery effluent. In addition to the waste water recycling component, the project also includes selected area development initiatives for strengthening the competitiveness of the leather cluster. The project is supported by Government of India through the Industrial Infrastructure Up-gradation Scheme (IIUS)

IL&FS Water Limited is the Project management Agency for implementation of this project
