Integrated Quality Enhancement at Municipal Schools

IL&FS Education and Technology Services (IETS), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Science & Technology Park (STP) of University of Pune are working in partnership to enhance the quality of education in 156 municipal schools through different interventions under the project "Prakash"

The various components identified for intervention include:

  • Improvement of the physical infrastructure
  • Up gradation of Information Technology (IT) both Infrastructure and Content
  • Enhancement in quality of education and classroom teaching-learning processes
  • Capacity building of teachers and educational functionaries
  • Special interventions for - (a) Children With Special Needs (CWSN) and Early Childhood Education (ECCE)

The up-gradation of schools will be undertaken in phases over three years with complete stakeholder ownership

Under the component "Enhancement in quality of education and classroom teaching learning" multimedia Content was to be developed for Academic Up-gradation of all students of PCMC Schools

To begin the transformation and develop multimedia lessons, a workshop involving some teachers from all classes and for all subjects was conducted at Growth Lab, Bhosari in February 2008 where "Challenge Spots" were identified by the PCMC teachers. Based on the inputs received from the workshop, the learning objects were developed by IETS for the syllabus to be covered during June - July 2008

In June 2008, training for all the Primary and Secondary School Teachers, Principals, CRC's and Supervisors was conducted on the multimedia learning objects

The objective of the Content Training was to share and familiarize all participants on the Multimedia Content and its use in the classroom and the use of the K-Yan

The training was attended by approximately 983 Primary School Teachers and 150 Secondary School Teachers and opportunity was given for hands on practice on using the Multimedia Content and the K-Yan

The workshops were interactive and served to erase fear of using technology in teaching and opened doors to new possibilities in school education. The creation of multimedia lessons as e-books was appreciated by teachers and PCMC officials. The feed back of the training sessions will be used to guide the transformation process and make it stakeholder relevant. The next phase of the roll out will include setting up of IT labs, MIS, systems, soft skills training and teacher training
