Biomass Projects

IEDCL has an installed capacity of 105 MW of biomass projects that consists of 80MW bagasse based Cogeneration projects and 25 MW of biomass based projects

Cogeneration projects: To develop renewable energy projects in the State of Maharashtra, “Urjankur Nidhi” fund was established with the participation of the Government of Maharashtra. Two bagasse based Cogeneration projects have been successfully implemented under the Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) mode

Highlights of the Business:
  • The Fund has established a framework for undertaking development of renewable energy projects under Public Private Partnership (PPP)
  • Successful implementation and operation of the Cogeneration projects through BOOT model has given encouragement to other up-coming sugar factories to develop and implement projects on similar basis
  • Cogeneration project of 44 MW implemented under the Fund is the largest Cogeneration plant in the PPP space in the Country
  • The Cogeneration projects undertaken by the fund have provided additional capacity in renewable energy to the State
  • The Fund has been successful in attracting professional management and incorporating best industry practices

Biomass projects: IEDCL has two operational biomass projects with cumulative capacity of 25 MW. The projects are located in the state of Punjab and Maharashtra, supplying power to the respective State distribution company

Highlights of the Business :
  • The projects have provided an opportunity to capitalize on a waste such as paddy straw/cotton stalk and convert it into a sustainable revenue generating model by sale of power
  • The projects have provided an impetus to the local economy with multiple benefits of employment generation and higher economic activities besides the benefits of clean energy generation
